A Boy did once a Rose see,
A Rose on a heath.
She look'd so fair and lively,
That, when he saw her nearely,
She did him very please.
O Rose fair! o Rose red!
O Rose on the heath!

The boy then said: I take thee,
O Rose on the heath!
She answered him: I punish thee,
That thon mayst ever think on me,
Since it does me not please.
O Rose fair! o Rose red!
O Rose on the heath.

To take away the boy then went,
The Rose on the heath.
She did in her defense him rent,
But was to this misfortune bent,
Though it did her not please.
